What keeps us from the Good Life – 1 John 1:5 – 2:2

Sep 14

1 John reminds us that God cares that we have an assurance of our salvation. In 1 John, we learn that God not only wants his people to know him, he also wants them to have assurance that they know him. It is this assurance and security that leads to the good life, the life that we have always longed for.

We don’t experience the good life because we don’t believe God loves us. Because God is light, we can experience the good life by walking in the light, which means keeping Jesus’ commands. However, our brokenness often prevents us from experiencing this life. Yet, John tells us that we can walk in this light by loving our brothers and sisters, and by confessing our sins.
